Control Automation is simply automating the control and monitoring of one or more devices in a system. A typical configuration would consist of a Control Processor, one or more Control Points, and one or more Controlled Devices and or Monitored Devices.

Everything in the system is connected to the Processor. Like spokes on a bicycle wheel. When a command request is received from a Control Point, Timed or Triggered Event, the appropriate Device is affected. Respectfully the affected Device’s state can be viewed at any Control Point.

Simply put, if a light is turned on in rear of the cabin of a Coach RV, it can be displayed at driver’s side control point, and visa versa. The degree of control and monitoring is only limited by the programming added to the system.

This centralization of control allows for more convenient control and monitoring of all systems in a Home, Business, Coach RV, Trailer or Yacht. This also allows for ‘Global Presets’, like ‘Dinner Time’, ‘Movie Time’ or ‘Bed Time’. These presets can include setting the lighting, temperature, music selections, sound levels and more.

Control Points can be wired or wireless. Even PDA’s like an iPad® or iPhone® can be used to turn on the lights, check the temperature or see if an entertainment system is being used to watch a DVD.

Control Processor is a central point of control and monitoring of electronic or electrical systems and devices.

Devices you would find in:

  • Home Entertainment Systems
  • Distributed Audio and Video Systems
  • Lighting
  • Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning or H-VAC
  • Security Systems
  • Pools
  • Hot Tubs
  • Sprinklers / Irrigation

Once integrated in, a Control Processor receives commands from a variety Control Points and then performs the programmed functions.

Control Points are devices that are used to send requests to a Control Processor and display the status of devices in a system, like ‘Turn On the Bedroom Lights’ and ‘The Bedroom Lights are On’.

These can include Key Pads, Touch Screens, motion sensors, pressure switches and more. They can be wired or wireless. Also third party devices can be integrated in to a system like an iPad® or iPhone®

Controlled Device is any electronic or electrical device that can be controlled. In many cases if a device does not provide controlled access, an interface can be added.

These include but are most certainly not limited to:

  • Entertainment Systems
  • Distributed Audio and Video Systems
  • Lighting
  • Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning or H-VAC
  • Security Systems
  • Pools
  • Hot Tubs
  • Sprinklers / Irrigation

Monitored Device is any device that provides feedback to a Control Processor. If an electronic or electrical device does not provide any feedback a sensor can be added to provide monitoring.

These include but are most certainly not limited to:

  • Holding Tanks
  • Fuel levels
  • Battery charge levels
  • Voltage levels
  • Leveling Jacks
  • Tire pressures
